Bacterial swab cultures now in-house

Our animal hospital now has the ability to do in-house cultures on swabs to identify a specific bacteria and to establish its resistance and sensitivity to particular antibiotics.

Adding this new test to our already extensive pathology facilities is an important step forward in ensuring we can do all of our own testing right here in the Alpine region.

The new bacterial swab culture facility has meant we can significantly reduce the waiting time between consult and test result, allowing us to quickly instigate the most appropriate and effective treatment. It’s particularly important in ear, skin, respiratory and urinary tract infections, where rapid and appropriate antibiotic usage means a far swifter return to health.

At Alpine Animal Doctors we are very proud of our dedicated pathology lab. Custom designed and equipped with the latest immunoassay technology, our lab is the only fully functional, dedicated pathology facility in the Alpine region and, we believe, possibly the most advanced veterinary pathology lab between here and Melbourne.

Having this level of pathology and testing facilities in a small rural area like ours is almost unique. We are continually adding more functionality to these vital diagnostic facilities to ensure that our clients and patients receive only the most advanced and up-to-date treatment and care possible.
